Thread: Yorkshire parish registers - Be quick

I have some borrowed from library parish registers, but will have to return them soon - so if anyone would like a look-up act quickly.



They are :- Hemsworth 1654-1812



Wragby 1704 - 1812



Felkirk 1701 - 1812



Rylstone 1559 - 1723



York Holy Trinity 1573 - 1812

Thank you for your kind offer. Could you please see if you can find the birth of John Morphet/Moffat born abt 1672 died abt 1744 married Agnes Rogers 21st May 1792 in Rylstone I believe. I would love to find out who is parents were?

Hello Maggie,



The only Morphet entry in the Rylstone register is the baptism of Agnes daughter of Edward Morphit of Cracoe date Feb. 12th 1721.



If I find anything else in other local parish registers I'll let you know.

I have looked on the Copac website (an online catalogue of major universities holdings) and my university library has a copy of the Arncliffe registers, I'll look through the register tomorrow to see if John Morphet is there, if he is I'll get back to you.

John's birth unfortunately is not recorded in the Arncliffe parish registers, however his marriage, and his children's births are. I know you were hoping his birth would be there, so I am sorry to disappoint, can you think of any other Yorkshire P.R. his birth may be recorded in? I have access to lots of Yorkshire registers, so if you know of another parish where he may have been baptised, then do let me know.



His marriage to Agnes Rogers is documented as :- May 21st 1692 both of Litton.



Do you have records of his children? If not just ask and I'll send details.



I found a marriage between Elizabeth Mophitt and John Winder Feb 6th 1696, in the Conistone register. Is she one of yours?

Thank you for taking the trouble to look for John's birth. The only other places I have linked with the Morphet name are Settle and Horton in Ribblesdale. I have four children for John and Agnes but no baptismal dates they are:

John b 1694 d 1695

Edward b 1697

Margaret b 1700

Agnes b 1708.



I have made a note of Elizabeth's marriage and wonder if she may be John's sister?

Agnes (nee) rogers was buried Jul. 27 1737.



Edward was bap. May 10th 1697. Margaret was bap. Feb. 4th 1699.



Another child was - John bap. Nov. 28th 1703.



There's also a bap. 1723 Feb. 2nd Ellin dau. of Edward M. of Litton.
