Hi Pauline
See my previous post re Henry H Gregory. Can I be a pain and ask you to search for Henry H Gregory again for me, in the 1938 directory, living in Eaton Ave, Litherland. Am having awful trouble tracing his death. I know that his wife died in 1933 and where she is buried but Henry is "something else !!". Can not trace his marriage or the birth of any of his children either - found marriages and deaths for all of them. Think they must have been beamed down from somewhere and Henry disappeared in a puff of smoke !!. Many thanks Libby |

Hi Libby,
Having checked the 1901 cencus return for Henry H Gregory and his family, I did a bit more searching and came up with the following: Henry H Gregory shows up in Ancestry.co.uk in 1861 and 1871 in Hampshire. Also I found a marriage for a Henry (Horatio) Gregory in Sept Qtr 1879 Islington 1B 545 to either Sarah Emily Riley or Matilda Smith, on 1837online. You may have already found this info yourself, and it may explain why you can't find the births of the children, maybe they have been mistranscribed in 1901 as to their place of birth, ie the parents gave wrong info on cencus night to the enumerator, just a thought. Hi Nanna
Many thanks for taking the time to search for my Henry H Gregory. Yes I have found him with his family in Southampton in 1861 and 1871. Have even traced the lives of his parents and siblings !!. Yes the place of birth is incorrect on 1901, should read Southampton. I know his wife (Annie) died in 1933 and is buried with their son and his wife (Charles). No-one else in the grave, in Bootle cemetery. I remember as a child my gr nan telling me that Henry Gregory was buried in Anfield cemetery. Wondered why he is not buried with his wife?. Maybe the grave was full and thats why he is in Anfield. Have searched for his death from 1901 to 1942 without success. Have found a marrieage for a Henry Gregory (Sep qtr 1878) to either Annie Lucy Cross or Annie Smith, Southampton/ Seems likely but I can not trace either of these ladies prior to this date. Will have to bite the bullit abd send off for both certs. Can not trace Annie or the children on 1881 or 1891, thought I may have found her as head of household if Henry was at sea. Once again thanks for trying. Wish I could meet him because I feel as if I know him !!. Regards Libby |

I wonder if you may be able to find my 'needle in a haystack'. I'm trying to find any reference to John DOYLE (may have middle name Denis). In 1896 he was a journeyman joiner at Walsden, Todmorden, West Yorks. In 1922 and 1930 he was a building contractor and died in Liverpool in 1938. May have been in Liverpool by early 1900s. I've not found him in 1891 or 1901 census. The name is very common in those parts.
Please would you see if you can find him in your 1911 and 1938 Liverpool directories. Many thanks. |

Hi,
Hope I have this question in the right place! I am looking for Robert V. Williams. He married Mary Hogarth on July 9, 1843, in St. Nicholas Liverpool. He is listed on the marriage certificate as living on Hedley Street. Mary is listed on Gascogne Street. Her father was Benjamin Hogarth. Is Benjamin listed in the directory on Gascogne Street? Robert's father was Edward Williams but I don't think Robert was living with his father at the time (only a guess). I would appreciate it if you could look to see if these are listed in the directory. Thank you. Gwen ![]() |
