    Hi Hazlenut,

David’s death is shown in the Index to Marine deaths for 1944 on page 182A

He is also listed as “Missing Presumed Killed” in a Roll of Honour, published in The Times Newspaper on 1st April 1944. If you would like a copy, please let me know.

His service records should be kept by the Ministry of Defence, who will release information to a next of kin, for a fee. Details can be found on the Ministry of Defence's website at

    http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/service_records.html

The following is included in information posted on a tree, by another family member:-

David was born 20 June 1924 at St.Day, Cornwall to David Annear and Gladys Margaret Tresidder.

Before joining the Navy in 1942, he had left school at around 15 and worked for his father's building business. He joined HMS Mahratta after it was refitted at Hull and it appears that this may have been the only ship he served on. He remained single and apparently had no children.

There are a few other recollections of David, photos of him and family members and their records available. If you do not have access to them, then just let me know and I will be happy to send you further info.

    Hello Geniegenie

My Grandfather was born in St Martins, Guernsey, Channel Islands on 3 November 1903 to unmarried Nellie Smith. She baptized him Walter Hugh Sebire. (I have a copy of his baptism paper.)

In August 1905 Nellie Smith signed my Grandfather over to Edward Arthur Wade and his wife and they became his adoptive parents. (I have a hand written note signed by Nellie Smith confirming this.)

Edward Arthur Wade was serving with the 21st Manchester Regiment, Number 4/2952 on the island at the time but I know nothing else about the circumstances of the adoption. I have some information about his service from the Manchester Regiment web site but this does not mention the adoption. I wondered if you might have confirmation of his adoption, perhaps registered along with other regimental births at the time?

Its a long shot! But thanks in anticipation.

(My Grandfather grew up as Walter Hugh Wade.)

    Kind regards, Robinetta
