I am looking for the marriage of Charles Bridges 18.03.1832 at the above to mary Ann/marion lewerthy. I am particularly interested in knowing the grooms parents and witnesses to the marriage. Also if you have access then to any baptisms of the siblings of the above - Charles was bp in Sheerness, Sheppey 1812/1816 but am unable to find his parents/siblings. Can you help - anything appreciated, thankyou.

    Hello Marion,

I note you offer lookups for St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich and was hoping whether you could help me please.

I am trying to research a Gulland family, most of whom were born in Kent.

The parents were John Gulland (born circa 1806, place unknown) and his wife Elizabeth Gulland (born circa 1810, Woolwich, Kent). Elizabeth's maiden name possibly Doyle? It appears that their first child, James Gulland, was baptised in 1830 at St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, followed by John Bruce (1831), Alexander (1834), Margaret (1836), Elizabeth (1838 at St. Mary The Virgin, Dover), Samuel (1840, Dover) and John Henry (1842, Dover). The 1841 census shows the family being at the Hougham Heights Barracks, Dover where the father, John Gulland, was a sergeant in the Royal Artillery. Other later census records show them in the Woolwich area, but it appears that John is missing from census records after 1841 (possibly died).

Does anyone have any marriage record for John and Elizabeth (possibly St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, circa 1825 to 1830) and perhaps a record of their respective births and parents' names?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Richard

    Hello Marion,

Many thanks for your information and help. John and Elizabeth Gulland were my G-G-G-Grandparents and their son, Alexander, was my G-G-Grandfather.

I do not know whether John Gulland and Elizabeth were also married at St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich as it appears to be where Elizabeth was born. Did your marriage records show any possibilities with the surname Gulland mispelt perhaps?

    Once again, thank-you.

    Regards,

    Richard

Richard I,m sorry but nothing more was found... I will have another look but it might take me a few days. Some of the old records are hard to make out. Some are smudged... Just think Richard my Whitehead Ancestors may have known your Gulland Ancestors as they lived in the same Street..Mulgrove Place...

    Bye for now

    Hi Marion,

I wondered if you could help me please. My G Grandfather Robert Burridge was born on 18 May 1844 and I think he was christened at St Mary Magdalene Church, Woolwich on 14th July 1844 (IGI). I wondered if you could find him and if he had any other siblings christened there?

Also he is not living with his parents by the time he is 7 years old on the 1851 census, so I wondered if there was a possiblily that they had died, and if there was any record of a burial at St Mary Magdalene. Their names are Hugh and Mary Ann Burridge.

I also know from the 1841 census that he had two sisters, Selina and Jane b 1840/41 I have only been able to find records of Selina and Robert after that time, and nothing for Jane.

Any help would be very welcome!

    Sylvia

    Hi Sylvia,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.. Would you mind giving me a few days with this one as I have some friends coming tonight to stay for a few days.. I will get back to you.

    Deaths Jun 1843 (>99%)BURRIDGE Hugh GREENWICH 5151

Might not be this one above Sylvia as you have mentioned 1844 for Robert

Sylvia I have checked the Disc for births from 1838 through to 1850 and sorry nothing was found. I am wondering if it could have been St Mary Mag.. Bermondsey?? Anyway you can contact the Greenwich Heritage Centre and they will do a search for you. It will cost a small fee for the lookup.. I,m so very sorry that I have not been able to help you.

    Kind Regards Marion
