Post Re: U.S.A Census lookups - 1790-1930

Hi Starlight

Combining hearsay, from my Aunt who is 81 years old, - with fact, I have little information but here goes!

Pauline Shaw born circa 1870 in England emigrated to Boston USA where she lived to be in her 80's. She never married but adopted five children.

Sorry its very vague I know - but any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards
Robinetta

Hi Robinetta,

There are two possible ones on the passenger lists but both of them were married. One was in her 50's which seems a bit old for adopting but I may be wrong. The other was 37. If she deffinatley was not married, I cannot find her on the census or passenger lists. Sorry.

Post Re: U.S.A Census lookups - 1790-1930

Hi Starlight

Thanks for your quick response.

I wonder if she actually was married and my Aunt was mistaken? I would find it hard to imagine adopting 5 children and not being married wouldn't you? Its hard to imagine the authorities at the time allowing it! Does the 37 year old appear on the Boston census at all?

Sorry - I am just clutching at straws I think? But if you could check. If she is not there - its back to the drawing board!

Kind regards
Robinetta

Hi Robinetta,

Before I look again, if she was married would Shaw have still been her surname ? Have you any idea when she would have gone there as the two on the passenger lists did not go around the same time.

Hi Starlight

Because I only have vague information, I will do a bit more questioning within the family to see if anyone has anything else more concrete.

I really appreciate your help with this. No doubt I will be back when I have any further information.

Thank you again
Kind regards,
Robinetta
