Thank you very much for your reply, do you know what 'Free inhabitants in the War Eagle Township', means?
Also would it be possible to search for the same family in the 1850 census, when they were possibly living in Tennesse.
Regards
Joan Smith

Hi Joan,

Sorry I can't find them in 1850. As well as the Free inhabitants census there is also a slave census in some areas and years. In the 1850 census there are some Hager families that are owners of slaves. It gives the owner of the slaves and number but not the slaves names.

Thank you for the lookups, as the Hagers were from German ancestry prior to the Revelution, I presume thaey were 'free' and could possibly have been slave owners.

Thank you for th ehelp on the Hager's, can you please do a lookup on Elizabeth Jane Votaw (might be spelt Voteau), in both 1860 and 1870 census. In 1870 she was possibly living in St Louis County Missouri.

Hi Joan,

There are quite a few of them. Have you got an approximate date and place of birth ?

Sorry I didn't give you a date of birth, she was born on 17 July 1840 in Missouri. She was possibly living in St Louis County Missouri in 1870, I know she married Simon Carpenter Hager in Fayette County Texas on 12 Janaury 1931. His first wife had died some time between 27 Nov 1869 and the date of the 1870 census, in the 1870 census he was living in Cistern in Fayette County (with his baby daughter).
Thank you for your help

Thank you very much for the lookup for Elizabeth Votaw. The location for the 1870 census ties in with her marriage in Fayette County in 1871, and the 1860 and 1850 census records also tie back to other information I have found out.

You very kindly searched for the Hager family in the 1850 census, I now have more information, so maybe it will be easier to identify the family. They were probably living in Warren County, Tennessee
Father Christopher A born 23 Feb 1808 in North Carolina he was a Methodist Minister
Mother Amelia born 1811 in North Carolina
Children
John
Tom
Simon born 30 Apr 1841 in North Carolina
Jim
Robert
E Ben born 29 February 1848 Warren County, Tennessee
Bibra Ellen
Jane Mary Ann
Charity born approx 1845
There could be other children also born in Tennesse
Could you please see if you can find them now.
Thank you
