Hi, I am looking for THOMAS SMITH tailor/ tailor journeyman. He married JANE DOUGLAS some time before 1858/9. Possibly England. They had at least 1 child MARY SMITH b. 1858/9 ENGLAND. She was on 1881 census as a visitor in GLASGOW staying with JAMES MCLAUGHLAN b. IRELAND & his wife & family all b. SCOTLAND. MARY married DONALD BIGGS 1882 GLASGOW. This is where I found her parents details as above. At that time JANE was deceased. MARY died 1913 GLASGOW & the reg. shows THOMAS deceased.

I wonder if it would be possible to locate them on the 1861 census together in ENGLAND to find where they were born? Or even better locate a marriage & the birth of MARY?

    Thanks

    maggiem
Hi Maggiem,

Have checked Free BM&D's 1838 - 1861 for a marriage between Thomas Smith and Jane Douglas without any trace, sorry.

Will now try 1861 cencus, but this could take some time with a name like 'Smith'.

    Nanna
Thanks Nanna,

I tried feebmd & it has a couple of items, but the originals are difficult to read, so the references are incomplete & I am not sure whether they are the right one`s.

I am sorry it is SMITH!! But anything you can do would be wonderful.

James Mann is on the 1841 census at Blakeney [Awre] with his parents William and Mary Mann.

    William Mann 70

    Mary Mann 55

    James Mann 25

Don't forget that this census rounded peoples ages up or down to the nearest 5 years. Hope this is of help.

    Hi Derrick.

I've looked at this on the IGI, and see that it is a record submitted by a member of the LDS Church and not a transcription. I would be very wary of this.

    Putting in the name "Thomas Woodward" on A......y brought up a lot of information concerning parish records for Ellastone, but nothing as far back as 1677, this was the earliest I found;

Staffordshire: Ellastone - Parish Registers, 1538-1700 Acte for Burying in Wollen. Acte for Burying in Wollen. Anno Salutis 1680. County: Staffordshire Country: England 08 Jun 1687 John, s. of Thomas Woodward bur.

    Hi Kimberlynn.

The birth marriage and death registers did not begin until 1837, and not everyone used them even then. Will try and find out from parish records, but cannot promise.

    Cheers for now.
