Thread: U.S.A and Canada Passenger Lists + U.S. Passport Applications

Hi Starlight,



I am looking to see if a great-uncle became a naturalized U S citizen. There is a reference to a naturalization date on a 1953 passenger record I came across where he is travelling with his wife Lillian. The date is 30 Aug 1941. He also appears on the SSDI which give his DOB as 21 Jull 1894 and the Death as Jan 1971.



Do you have access to the Naturalization records?

There are records showing when the application was made and if granted or not. There is also a description of the person, present place of residence, place & date of birth, name of spouse and when/where married. Her place and date of birth and number of children

OOPS! A name would make it easier.



His name is James Moore. He traveled quite frequently to and from China, and lived there for a time. His wife was Lillian Moore nee Broad. She was born in Hawaii. They were both living there when they died. He died first. If that SSDI entry is him, and I think it is, I have the month and year but not day. I know the DOD for Lillian but not her DOB.

Have you got any dates confirmed by certificates? There are loads of journeys of a James Moore going from or returning to Hawaii. There are also many Lillians. Do you know if James was married more than once. If he wasn't, then I don't think it will be possible to confirm if he is on the naturalisation records as there are a lot of journeys with a different female name from China. Did James have English parents?

Lillian Broad is Lillian Moore. Her father was a shipping agent. She did spend some time in Yokohama and Murkden. She has a brother William Broad you will see on one or more of the passenger lists. She and James were married in 1928 in England. As to James, His parents were James Moore and Elizabeth Patterson of Liverpool, England.



James actually served in WW1 in a Scottish regiment. He received two medals, one being the Mons Star -- I found the medal card but not the service records.



As for Naturalization, there is a reference on the 1953 record and there is a social security number for James. I would venture to guess that he would not have a SSN without being a US citizen.



You are quite the sleuth with discovering this information, so I thought I would ask for your help.
