Hi Audrey,
There are a few Samuel Hird journeys around that time. Do you know exactly where and when he was born ?

Hi Starlight,
Sam Hird was born 27th July 1852 Bingley, Yorkshire. I have his baptism record (1853) but sadly there is no GRO birth index reference for him.
If you can see any other shipping records, it would be great.
Thank you,

Hi Audrey,
It is a good job you posted here as it had gone into my spam folder. I was about to ask you another question but I think I know the answer now. I will get back to you.
Hi Audrey,
Do you know of any reason that Samuel would be travelling with a Selina Hird born 1851 ? The relationship is not given.
Also, there is a Sam and Mary Hird returning to England in 1904 but with a Martha Hird. Would Martha be related but not gone out on the first journey with them ?
Hi Starlight,
I know the name Selina, and think she could be a relation to my Sam, but the Sam travelling with Selina, I think is the other Samuel. I haven't really gone into it, but think the other Samuel also married a Mary. All VERY confusing.
It also could be that Martha is related to the other Samuel. I have downloaded several Census pages that I haven't really looked at yet, but they are all possibly connected with my Sam.
There were quite a few Hirds from Keighley showing on Shipping records. I don't really know who they are though.
Thanks for your help.
Audrey
Hi Audrey,
The one travelling with Selina gives his birth as 1852 but is down as Samuel. The 1850 one gives his name as Sam. There are also Sams and Samuels born in 1851 but I think most of these are the same people with birth dates estimated. There is one that travels in and out of Southampton. All the others give their place of birth as Yorkshire, I think these must be mostly related or the same person as why would the name Sam Hird only be born in Yorkshire ?
Was he baptised as Sam or Samuel ? Have you any other addresses for him apart from those I gave on the censuses. A lot of the passenger lists give an address. This may be the way of finding the right one if he didn't chaange addresses each time he moved back.
Hi Starlight
(1) Walker (New York) Ancestors. Hoping you can help with census lookup for the United States. Details are as follows:
William Henry Walker b 2 March 1822 Albany (New York)
Margaret Ann (Annie) Walker (Walker) b about 1829/30 (New York)
Married: 8 December 1848 (New York)
Virginia Albertina Walker: daughter b about 1850 Staten Island (New York)
(2) I have had no success in turning up birth records and marriage record - this appears to be due to the informalities of recording information in the State at various times.
(3) It is also possible that due to movements, the Walkers are also missed on the US census. This is due to William Walker - together with or separate to his family -following the gold rush from New York to California and then onto Australia. The family turns up in Sydney Australia in 1854 - although I suspect William (and maybe also his family) would have been in the Victorian Australia gold fields before 1854.
(4) If it is any help, William's occupation was possibly in the book industry (possibly bookbinder or stationer) and his wife Margaret has Lenni-lanape native american background. It is indicated that William was also involved in the 9th Regiment NYS Artillery (militia) in 1846 and a volunteer of the Manhattan Fire Engine Company No.8 on Nassu Street - I have also persued these avenues, but again without success.
(5) My many thanks if you can help.

Hello again Starlight
Sorry - I just realised I posted my Walker ancestors lookup request to Passenger Lists and Passport Applications thread and not the USA Census thread.
