Hi Ken,
In my tree they are Inn keepers. Have you looked at the links and tips forum ? Just put "Occupations", in the search engine at the top right hand side of that forum. You will then get sites with all different old occupations. |

My GGGrandfather on my fathers side was a Victualler. He had 3 pubs in all. The Harp of Erin, The Carriers Arms (still in existence but with a name change) and The Burrabadeen Hotel. Another relative Richard Jurd held the licence for the Settlers Arms Inn in St Albans New South Wales and after his death his wife took over the licence. The Inn was in the family for 90 years. This Inn is still operating and is one of the oldest hotels in Australia still operating.

That's great Chris. This is a link to the Settlers Arms Inn. It is now a tourist destination and has been beautifully renovated. It was built around 1836. The main bar is lovely and cosy. The bar itself was made out of a single tree trunk. It was cut in half and half was used as the bar itself and the other half is above the bar as a framework for it. It is in a really beautiful setting with the lovely MacDonald River part of the Hawkesbury River across the road.
