    Default owen of brinklow

i believe i have a great number of relatives living in brinklow in the 17 and 1800s, many of them seem to be boatmen on the grand union canal. i believe that a joseph owen born about 1777 in brinklow is my ancestor, however, there is amissing link between him and who could be his daughter, hannah owen b.circa 1826 i have never been able to find out the exact parentage of hannah she may be agrandaughter of josephs. the problem is that the boat families sometimes had births in other parts of the country and missed some of the census recordings

    Hi wiredog,
In order to trace right ones was your Joseph Owen born 1777 Brinklow the son of William and Sarah or William and Grace(nee cotton)?
Did Joseph marry Avis Beeby in Brinklow on 4 June 1799. He is aged 64, a boatkeeper, in Brinklow with Evers (Avis) aged 62 , a son Richard and Joseph Wright, aged 10(possibly a grandchild). Is he widowed by 1851 and living with Hirons brothers?

Several baby Owen deaths in the 1840's- possibly grandchildren.
Is this the right Joseph Own

I have found a Joseph Owen ch 28.8.1774 at Brinklow, Parents William & Grace - and like Lola5 found him on the 1841 census. But I cannot find a Hannah owen who may fit the bill. Do you think she is a daughter of Joseph's? and are we talking about the Brinklow in Warwickshire?

That little one died pejay in 1775.
We need Wiredog to come back to confirm things.
There are burials for two Evis Owens in Brinklow(Warwickshire). One1844 was aged 2 and one, 8 Nov 1843 was aged 64 so that might be Joseph's wife.
If Joseph and Avis married 4 June 1799 then either Hannah was the last born or else she was a grandaughter but I haven't found her yet. There is a death for a Joseph Owen 20 Nov 1852. There seems to have been several Owen families in Brinklow.

Joseph Owen and Evis had a son JOSEPH Owen christend at Brinklow 31 may 1809 and RICHARD christened 12 may 1811 and maybe that one died young as they had a second RICHARD christened 5th march 1820 . This Richard married a Selina Wade in 1846 in Brinklow and they can be found through the censuses(which I will post if you want them). Richard and Selina had several children and they had a HARRIET born 1826 but no Hannah.

A Joseph Owen born Brinklow in 1799 was in Buckinghamshire in 1861? Is he yours wiredog?
AS for Hannahs there were plenty of them born in Birmingham , Coventry and warwick(Were these places also on the Graand Union Canal?)

Lastly.. do you know who Hannah married?

    hi lola and pejay,
re my thread on owen of brinklow here is what i believe is the story:
my grandfather arthur owen b. sulgrave ox. 1897
    my g.grandmother kate owen b. sulgrave 1882
    " g.g.grandfather william owen b.brinklow warks 1842 m.jane tyrell b.1844
    " g.g.g grandmother hannah owen b. brinklow 1824 m. robert shellard b.1817
then there is a question as to who is hannahs father if it was joseph owen b.1777 brinklow son of william and sarah he would have been a bit old by 1824 so there may be some other parentage. if she josephs daughter then i am possibly able to link her back to1600s in barford st michael in oxfordshire

    hi lola,
answer to who hannah married is robert shellard, the brother of william who i believe to have been a soldier. the child produced was named after his father perhaps but kept the surname owen even after the marriage of hannah and robert who went on to have several more children. He could be named after his grandfather (or great grandfather) william owen b.1738 brinklow m.sarah randall b.1749, if joseph b.1777 is f or gf

TRying to remember wiredog, (Cannot lay my hands on book I wrote it in at moment.... will search later)
If I remember Hannah in census gives her birthplace as Brinklow. I had reckoned she must be the daughter of Joseph born 1809 (son of Joseph as Richard did not have a Hannah.
47 was a bit old for Avis/Evis to have a child albeit her last.
Who did Joseph born 1809 marry> Do you know?
