Hi Edy,

Could you please tell me what kind of dates you are looking at for your enquiry? and any other family members that might be with him, as this will make it a bit easier to locate him

Thanks

Hi, Sstill having trouble with birth certificate, also the people I have spoken to said his surname never had a E on the end, he was definately born in 1904,and there has been no definate place of birth all tat was known about was the orphange and when he left it went straight into the army. when he and mum met he had come down from the north,I have spoken to some one from the church they were married in and they don't know where he was from either. edy

Hi Edy - I'm not sure why you are so uncertain about the birth reference which was found for you. It is the right name, right date, the area you originally thought he came from. There are no other possibilities! The 'e' on the end is really not important - variations of this kind were incredibly common.
I think your only way forward is to send for the birth certificate. You can then check if the date of birth is the correct one. Then you can then look to see if his parents died - also if he had any siblings.
Good luck
Gillian
