Thumbs up Joseph Kay Hampshire of Emley Yorkshire

Is there anyone researching the Hampshire's of Yorkshire that can shed light on Joseph's siblings and ancestors. Joseph married Mary Kaye in 1846 and came to Australia with his 3 children (John, Anne & Edward) in 1863

Hi Burleysearchers,

On the IGI there are two possible births.

1) Joseph Hampshire christened 20th Aug 1826 Emley, parents John and Hannah.

2) Joseph Hampshire Christened 7th Oct 1827 Emley, parents Richard and Elizabeth.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also on the igi, is this submitted record (a record submitted by a member of the public, not extracted from the parish register)
Marriage Emley Yorkshire
27th Mar 1826 ...... John Hampshire to Ann KAYE
Hi,
To be certain who his parents were you would have to buy his marriage cert. Here's the details
Marriages Dec 1846 Hampshire Joseph Wakefield vol22 page 631
They can be ordered online here http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
You will need to quote the vol and page number above.
Certs cost £7 for UK residents, I'm not sure what the extra charge for postage would be to Australia, maybe the website will have that info.
Good luck, and if there's anything else we can help with.....please ask.
Hi Burleysearchers
There is a likely death for your Joseph in Carcoar, NSW, Australia as Joseph K HAMPSHIRE, son of John and Anne, in 1871 (reg 3235). Since Ann[e] was often used interchangably for Hannah, it looks like Slizzy has hit on the right family. This death certificate would show you his spouse, parents and all his children. Aussie death certs are vey detailed and really useful for family history!
I suspect his wife Mary remarried the following year, to George Hill NOBLE[S] in Goulburn (reg 2224). Possible death for Mary in 1903 in Goulburn as NOBLE, dau of Peter & Bridget? (reg 1664)
Son Edward Kay married Ellen BROOK in Goulburn in 1878 (reg 3087); they had 12 children (9 surviving), all born in Goulburn. Ellen died in 1919 in Goulburn (reg 24496) and Edward died in 1920 in Sydney (reg 15678).
Hope this helps
Cherilyn
Hi
This is your JKH and Family
I am also reaserching Joseph kaye Hampshire, for a book on Australia's first Iron smelting works at Mittagong, New South Wales. As your Joseph Kaye Hampshire was the manager/engineer of these works in the 1860s and then left for Goulburn and died on the 19th November 1870 at Junction Point near Tuena New South Wales whilst panning for gold, his wife Mary found him dead at the river bank and she called for her son John for help. There was an inquest into his death. The cause of death was registerd as a rupture of blood vessel on the brain, his death was registerd at carcoar. Have you found a family member who has any information on him whilst he was at the Fitz Roy iron works Mittagong. I do know that there are family members still about and living in Goulburn and Sydney. I have not had time to contact them but I will when I have done more on the family tree. It would be great if a family member has a photo of him or his family as they did live in Nattai/Mittagong when he was working at the Fitz Roy Iron Works. He was also presented with a gift from the works when he left and I hope one of the family members still might have it. His wife Mary did re-marry. His death certificate shows his mother was Anne Kay and father John and he was born in Emiley, Yorkshire England. He is burried at Junction Point , Tuena. aged 46 yrs I dont know if he has a headstone.
I do have lots more on him.
Hope we can help each other
please contact me
regards
