Default Surname "Bitting"

Hi!

I am tracing the surname "Bitting" in the UK.

So far, I have established 2 families in the present day, one based in Sheffield and the other in Co. Durham, both of which stem from one family.

In the early 1800's the family was based in Lincolnshire, moving to Sheffield around the mid 1800's, and in the 1600's and 1700's appeared to have lived in the "Shudy Camps" area of Cambridgeshire. Variants on the surname from parish records from this time are "Bitten" and "Bittin".

I have traced a few people from census records with the Bitting surname based around Penzance and the West Midlands during the 1800's, but these appear to be "one-off's" and I cannot link them to the main family as mentioned above.

If anyone has any additional information based on the above, recognises the name, or knows of anyone in their family ancestry with the surname, I would be glad to hear from you.
