My sister and I are searching for our g.grandfather's death.
Joseph James Minett was born in Islington, Middlesex in 1855. Father, Alphonus Frederick Minett was a soap Manufacturer near Kings Cross. JJ was a Traveller, presumably for Minett Soap and Varnish. In 1877 JJ married Eleanor Sears Robinson. They had 3 children. In the 1891 census, JJ is living alone and his wife and children are with his parents. Alphonus died in 1896, leaving the factory to JJ's wife for her exclusive use. In 1902 their daughter, Sophia Eleanor married and states on her marriage certificate that her father was deceased. Our grandfather, the younger son always said that his father was a disgrace to the family and that he would tell our mother what had happened when he himself was on his deathbed. However, he suffered a bloodclot after a prostate operation and didn't tell anybody anything !! The Joseph Minett in the Workhouse in 1901 census isn't ours, nor the death in the north of England, nor south London. We have looked on ship passenger lists, and asked at the passport office whether he had a passport. Owing to Privacy Rules, they cannot tell us unless we have a date of death to protect his privacy. I assume they know that at age 157 he is still alive !! We would welcome any other ideas. Thank you. |
