Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am trying to trace a lady by the name of Ann Doherty who was born in 1927 in York, her father was called Edmond Doherty and was a Doctor her mother was called Winsome Shoubridge but died sometime in the late 1930's. The familly home was in stalybridge, Cheshire. If anyone has any information no matter how vague or any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Emily |

Hi Emily,
I don't know what details you have confirmed to date, but have found the following: Births Edmund Doherty March Qtr 1882 Chorlton 8C 711 Winsome Shoubridge Sept Qtr 1904 Falmouth 5C 133 Marriage Edmund Doherty & Winsome Shoubridge June Qtr 1926 Brentford 3A 408 Deaths Edmund Doherty Aged 55 Sept Qtr 1937 Manchester North 8D 510 Winsome Doherty Aged 37 Dec Qtr 1942 Leeds 9B 461 They both obviously moved about a bit from these details. I think you may need to apply for one/both death certificates and maybe you will find info leading to what happened to Ann. Good Luck |

Hi Nanna,
Thank you very much for your time and research. I am afriad to say that i think that was the wrong Edmond as the one i have was born in Ireland in 1892 and did not die until 1975 but i really appreciate you looking for me. The winsome that you found sounds like a good match, if so it has filled another gap in my research as i was having trouble finding her date of death and where abouts she lived at the time so thank you for that. As for Ann she is proving to be a bit elusive but i am sure i will get there eventually! Thanks again for all your help. Emily |

Hi Again,
I have a slightly different angle to my research. Is there any way you can check if Edmond Doherty remarried? Due to him being a doctor i have a list of his addresses from the medical regster. This enabled me to check (with the help of some kind people) the electoral role which has him living with a Winifred Ward in 1946 in Stalybridge, Cheshire (which was Ann Dohertys family home) so due to Winsome Shoubridge possibly dying in 1942 it is quite feasable that he may have married Winifred and had more children (Edmond moved on to mevagissey in cornwall in about 1955 if this helps) It would be great if you could check this for me. Thanks for your help |

Hi Emily,
Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate? if so what age is Edmund? I think maybe I quoted the wrong birth certificate and the wrong death certificate for Edmund, there is quite an age gap. Also I wasn't aware your Edmund was born in Ireland, the records of which I don't have access to. I think you may need to apply for Winsome's death certificate to find out who the informant was, before you can go any further. Nanna Last edited by nanna; 17-10-2007 at 10:08 PM. |

Hi Nanna,
Thank you for your message. Unfortunatley i do not have his birth cert but i do know he was born around 30/04/1892 in belfast to a Charles and Frances. As for winsomes death cert i will go ahead and order it as this is the first lead i have had on her possible date and place of death. Thanks again for all your help. |

Hi Emily,
I am confused. Is this post meant to be in the adoption help forum ? |

Hi again,
I have posted another message in the adoption forum about an Ann Doherty. Ann is the lady I am trying to trace and I am hoping is still alive but during the search for her I have ended up discovering more about her father Edmond and his family and my research went of on a bit of a tangent as it felt like it was coming to a dead end with Ann. So my main priority is still Ann but I also welcome any information on her father and his family. In thinking about it the title of my post is probably inappropriate as i can see how it would confuse people. Sorry for the confusion. |
