Hi All,
I am trying to discover some details about my maternal family line. My grandfather, Edward PEACOCK was born in 1903 in Greenwich and was one of 4 sons born to Edward Alfred PEACOCK and Emmeline PHILLIPS. EA PEACOCK was b 25 Jan 1879, in Conyer St. Bethnal Green and he married Emmeline abt Sept 1902 and after her death married her sister, Rose Ellen PHILLIPS. I have a lot of detail of the PHILLIPS family and a reasonable history of EA himself - a very religious man, working for the London City Mission - although he seems not to have behaved that well later in life as Mission papers suggest he went to live with a railway employee later in life, his second wife having become ill and confined to "hospital" somewhere on the Kent coast. At the moment I am trying to discover something about his father John PEACOCK. I believe he was born in London, was a seaman of some kind and that he married Mary Anne BEESTON of Ipswich 02 Dec 1877 in St Stephen Bow Middx. Mary's father James BEESTON was also a mariner). Mary Anne appears on the 1881 census as a widow and head of the family with EA (also known as Alfred) and later in 1891 as wife of Thomas SPURGEON with EA shown as the step-son. The disappearance of John is the subject of some family rumour as I have been told that he didn't die between 1979 and 1881 but in fact went to Australia/Tasmania and started a new life there although I can't find any record of that. Any help or contact with other Peacocks gratefully recieved. |
