Default 3rd Fld Amb R A M C

Hello Members of AA, can anyone help me find information regarding, late gdad WW11 Pte Stanley Geoffrey Ford (dob august 1918) unit 3rd Fld Amb, R A M C . A truly loving kindhearted gdad only briefly mentioned his Army Service.

Is it possible for the family to find out the countries he was sent to, and what medals he was given for his army service.
He did tell us that he was for a time a POW in STALAG x1A Altengrabow, again we only have little bits that he mentioned.

Army photographs and letters went missing a good few years ago when they moved house, so any information/help would be great.
Maybe one of your relations was in the same unit 3rd Fld Amb, R A M C during WW2 and they knew him
Any information no matter how small would be appreciated....sincere thank you to anyone who can help........cheers Summer

To find the Army Service Records for an Individual.
  • Full name of the individual. If you have as full a name as possible as this will make tracking your individual easier. E.g. John Brown. There must be hundreds of John Browns. If you have a middle name it will make things a bit easier. E.g. John W Brown.
  • The Service in which he served. Army, Royal Navy or Air Force.
  • Rank and Regiment or Naval Ship or Squadron. Having the service number can be particularly helpful.
  • Find out when the person served; pre First World War, First World War and after 1920.
  • The more details you have the better. Even the Enlistment date and Demob dates are helpful as well.
For records of Servicemen and Women who served in WW2 and beyond;
Army Records Office

You have to prove kinship to the person and it costs £30. Click on the link and all the details are there.
