Thomas Black Latimer
If anyone has connections to the Above i would be more than happy to hear from you Notes Thomas was born on 5 September 1912 at 9 Dene Lane, Fulwell, Sunderland, Co Durham, of George Henry Latimer and Catherine Purcell. He is described as having a fresh complexion, Blue eyes and Dark brown hair Before joining the army Thomas was a labourer Thomas enlisted in the army at Durham on the 13 June 1930, his army number was 4448313 and he enlisted into the Durham Light Infantry, and served with the South Staffs Regt. His record of service is as follows:- HOME 13-06-30 25-09-33 3rd class 05-12-30 INDIA 26-09-33 04-02-37 2nd class 26-09-34 SUDAN 05-02-37 29-10-37 1st class 30-05-35 SHANGHAI 30-10-37 29-03-40 special 14-08-35 HOME 30-03-40 12-03-44 He was discharged on the 12 March 1944 for "Ceasing to fulfill army physical requirements". He reached the rank of WO II (CSM) His final assessments on discharge reads "Miltary Conduct Exemplary. Testimonial - An honest sober and energetic Warrant Officer. Has long experience in control of men and is thoroughly trustworthy. He should do well in a position of trust and responsibility." He married Maggie Johnson known as Pete 511, and they had one child a daughter Gillian. He died on 2 June 1979 and was buried at Finchampstead. source 511, Army Discharge, papers, BC. |
