Hi all
I have found a medal index card for my great grandfather who served in WW1 with the Royal Field Artillery. AS yet I have been unable to track down service records and just wondered if anyone had any ideas on how I could find out the unit he was in and thus research his activities during the war. He is listed as a Driver in Royal Field artillery and his service number has an L/ prefix. He entered the Theater of war 27th November 1915 in France. Besides this I do not have a lot of info and have looked all over but to no avail. Oh he lived in the Mile End area of London in 1910's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Erika |

Hi Erika
Unfortunately most WW1 service records were destroyed during WW2. Those which survived are at the National Archives (you can download a research guide from the site). They are also being added to ancestry.co.uk (I am not sure if they are all there yet). Post his name and I'll have a look Gillian |

Thanks Gillian I am signed up to ancestry and as yet they still have not added the H's fully (I have found MIC but no service records), it is supposed to be done this month sometime, but I do not hold out hope that his records will have survived. Although sometimes I do think I am just getting the research side of things all wrong lol!
His name was Alfred George Harveywells. It is very kind of you to offer to lookup details for me, really it is. Erika |

Thanks Gillian, I am all excited now, they must have just added him, I know they are currently working on the H's. So I am off to download the files, I can't tell you the feeling of excitement, I feel like a kid at Christmas lol!
Thank you again ERika Just want to say the biggest thank you to you all for your help. There are a number of images listed now for my GGF records. I have a lot of work ahead, am going to try and do some image manipulation to reveal the writing that is almost gone (fingers crossed it works). Thank you again!
