Thread: Speer and the Military Medal

Hi Everyone,

Branching off from my Rixson research, I apparently had a great uncle who won the military medal in WW1. His name was Frederick "Freddie" Speer (or Spear - I'm not too certain). I've checked the 1901 census, which he should be on, but while there are lots of Speers and Spears, none appear to be in the right place - as I understand it, he should have been living in Wales. But then I may have this all wrong!

Anyway - how do I find out about MM winners? I've looked around the net, and while I can see who got standard war medals, and the MC, there appears to be no info on the MM! Which is frankly bizarre and must be down to me not knowing what I'm doing!!!

Anyone any tips on this? Or indeed, does the name ring any bells?

If you post details of age and area of birth for your Gt Uncle in the Genealogy help area...I'm sure someone will help to locate him on 1901

Thanks for this - I am afraid I don't have any details of his birth, but do have a date for his sister, so will try cross ref this in census and other records. Thanks again.
