    Hi Raven,

Visited Newbattle cemetery today. The gravedigger helped me to finally pinpoint Alexander Laing Boyd Aitken in Newbattle Cemetery.

Not only that I spotted in his book that the person in the next lair was Constance Smith, my Great Grandmother on my mothers side of the family, who my mother thinks, died in dalbeatie but was brought home to Newbattle for burial.

Not only that when we got to ALBA's grave there was a stone flower holder with the inscription "To my dear beloved wife Maggie (Margaret Aitken, Alexanders sister) This was sitting on top of ALBA's grave but the gravedigger said that according to the book only ALBA was in the lair.

I only found out tonight that Maggie was cremated, so the flower holder must be a memorial of some kind.

    Busy day

    regards,

    John.

PS This leaves James Aitken to find. According to my uncle he moved to Campbeltown and married a Mary NcConachie.

    Hi John,

Have found another baby death. I'll add it to the old thread if I can find it.

    Good morning

I had a similar problem with Loanhead cenetery a few years ago and the Lair books were kept by the council in the same building as the Local History Archive in Loanhead. But there were also books kept at the cemetery office and the person in charge there looked through them and showed me where my people were buried. Maybe the same could be done at Newbattle?

    regards

    Bill
