    Default KENNY Family

My KENNY family were from CHURCHILL, County MEATH, IRELAND. Jane and Mary KENNY came to AUSTRALIA as Irish famine orphans. Jane was born in abt 1831, Mary abt 1830 to Thomas KENNY and Mary. I would be interested in anyone who can give me some advice on how to trace the Kenny family further back. Are there any websites that allow you to look up Irish Parish records?

Sunshine18, Irish Ancestors can be so hard to trace..I am still none the wiser after six years of researching the name of my Gt Gt Gt Grandmother...I do not even know if my Gt Gt Grandfather had any siblings..I would just keep trying Family Search from time to time using the Pilot Search method...All the very best in regards to this search..

Hi sunshine- working on the census to start I found a THOMAS kENNY WITH MARGARET HIS WIFE and 3 chiIdren . He was 45 she was 34 and from Meath - this was on the 1861 census . On 1851 I found Jonathan age 59 from Meath with Margaret 46 and 1 ChiId. Theres a few on each census but not sure of the reIationships to yours if any at this moment.

    Hi Sunshine

I have found a web site that has got a picture of a Mary Kenny who was one of the the young women

it is "orphans from IreIand" - the pic has a copyright on it so I cant copy it - sorry - 4th pic on top row

The names from the memoriaI are-

    Ann Kenny from Iangford
Mary Kenny from CastIecomer - KiIkenny

Irish Famine orphans were young women who came to Australia from Irish workhouses at the height of the Great Famine. Their lives are central to the Famine Memorial at Hyde Park Barracks in Sydney.

INCONSTANT was one of the ships that went out and she was on it

SAA GRG 65/1/1 11 March 1850, 28 August 1850. I hasten to add that possibIy she was an aIIeged prostitute .

The ships that carried Irish Female orphans to Australia between 1848 and 1850 as part of the 'Earl Grey scheme went to South AustraIia , Victoria and New South WaIes'. On board, and in addition to the orphans, there were usually a small number of emigrant families, a matron, a Surgeon-Superintendent, and members of the ship's crew.
