hi iam looking for my lavelle family in westport in co mayo my great grandfathers name was austin lavelle he married a ann in ireland and had a daughter called mary in 1839. austin was born in 1822 he had a brother called patrick and came to england/kidderminster worcestershire before 1861. i would like to find any info on him if you can find it he died in kidderminster in 1903. if nyone has a onnection with this family please let me know thanku xxx

Griffiths Valuation has 12 entries for Lavelle in and around Westport and Westport Quay in 1855. (The civil parish is Oughaval, the RC parish is Aughaval).

The Lavelle entries were in the townlands of Cartoor, Mullagh, Tangincartoor, Streamstown, Killeencoff & Cloonmonad. Some were probably the same person with more than 1 piece of property (eg Myles Lavelle). So quite a small range of people and places. I would check parish records, if they have survived. The census for Mayo suggests they were likely to have been RC. RC records appear to have been copied to the National Library, Dublin.

Aughaval parish marriages go back to 1825 so you may find Austin and Ann’s marriage there. Roman Catholic records
