Thread: Hepburns of Keith and Waughton, and Cockburns

I'm interested in finding out about a Jeane Cockburne, who married Robert Hepburn of Keith in Humbie in 1655. This record is searchable on Scotlands People. We have another Robert Hepburn marrying another Jeane Cockburne in Humbie in 1665, but we have her parents as George Cockburn and Margaret Touris. This second Robert was the son of Adam Hepburn of Humbie.
One of our researchers here in Australia had the 1655 Jeane's parents as John Cockburn and Elspeth Oliphant, but a search of the IGI and Scotlands People has come up with eight possibilities. I've looked up Cockburn-Hood's very informative family history on the Cockburns, as well as various peerage volumes and other records to no avail. Perhaps the key to finding the 1655 Jeane's background might be lurking somewhere.
We are descended from William Hepburn (1673 - 1717), whose parents were listed as Robert Hepburn of Keith and Jeane C. As William had a brother named Robert, whom we think was born c 1657, the 1655 Hepburns would seem to be the parents.
Would love to hear from anyone with any information.

I have looked at Scotland's People, and viewed the only marriage which is a match. It was on 5th June1855, at Humbie, East Lothian. There is no marriage in 1865. On reading the actual written entry, it shows 29th April, 1855 when the marriage was proclaimed (This is merely the reading of the banns, and not the actual date ) The marriage then takes place on 5th June and reads:-
April 29th 1855, the which day proclamation of marriage between Robert Hepburne of Leith and Jeane Cockburne read.

Further down the same page:-
June 5th 1655 the which day Robert Hepburne of Leith was married to Jean Cockburne.
