Thread: Looking for family of Peter Farrell

I am looking for any relatives of Peter Farrell born in 1867 Edgeworthstown, Longford, his fathers name was Matthew Farrell and his occupation was listed as a Beetler in 1888 on Peters marriage certificate. Peter joined the 5th Dragoon Guards in abt 1884, he then married Eliza Hartfield in St Annes Church in 1888, shortly afterwards they had their first child Elizabeth Mary Farrell in Belfast. Sometime in 1891-2 Peter left the 5th Dragoon Guards and took up a post as a police constable in Crewe, Cheshire before leaving in December 1897. His police record states his religion as Roman Catholic but he married in St Annes which is Church of Ireland and the children were raised as Church of Ireland. Peter also went by the name Patrick. The family were back in Belfast for the birth of their son Thomas in 1899 and the Farrells remained their until my nan moved to England with her husband and they settled in Northampton.



Our family as far as they are aware have never met or had contact with any of Peters family and I would dearly like to know why?

There are only 3 Peter Farrell births registered in Co Longford in1867. One of them may be your relative.

I believe my husband's late mother Florence was the youngest child of Peter Farrell. She emigrated to Australia in 1927 and married Edmund Connolly in 1929. She had 5 children - the boys are named Peter, Thomas and Patrick. Two of her brothers also emigrated to Australia -Frederick and Thomas. I believe Edward was killed in WWI. Florence lists Peter Farrell, Policeman as her father on her marriage certificate. Please let me know if you have been able to find out any further details about Peter - eg when he died and whether he was in fact Florence's father as there seems to be some confusion as to whether Peter fathered all of Eliza's children.
