    Default Downey

I am looking or information on the death of my Gr. Grandfather, John Joseph Downie born 1865. His father was James Downey. I would love to know who his mother was. In 1891 he married Mary Anne Toland at Belfast Roman Catholic Church. He had a son John Joseph in 1892. He died in 1896 in Belfast. Can anyone tell me what the cause of his death was.
    Thanks Angela

    Hi Ang

The only sure way would be to obtain a copy of his death certificate.
The link below may be of help.

Belfast City Council. Deaths, burials and cremations.

You want to know who John Joseph Downie's mother was. If he was born in Ireland then you should be able to find a birth certificate for him, which will give her name. You can search for his birth on the LDS pilot site.

The only death that fits the information you have given was for John Downie b 1865 whose death was registered in Belfast April – July 1896 Volume 1, page 233. You can obtain a photocopy of that cert from GRO Roscommon for €4 and it should give you the cause of death. Quote the place, year, quarter , volume and page number on the application form.
