Hi

My ancesters are from Countesthorpe Leicestershir. would you have any information on landowners in that area. The family name is TEBBS, although I believe that my GGGrandfather married into a land owning family as well, his wife was called Phipps.

Thanks

Pyghtle (Brenda)

Hi Pyghtle,

I have found a William Tebbs from Countesthorpe he owned 50 acres of land which realised an annual income of £105. Also there's a John Tebbs from Ashby Folville who owned just over an acre and was worth £10 and 5 shillings.

There's a Rev. George william Phipps from Husbands Bosworth he had 580 acres which was worth an annual income of £945 and 12 shillings. Also Hannah Phipps from Seagrave just over 7 acres worth an annual income of £18 and 10 shillings.

I hope this helps

Regards

Thank you Slizzy, that is so interesting. William Tebbs is my GGGrandfather, and the really interesting thing is that he married Elizabeth Phipps and became a gentleman farmer, the family were very wealthy, they had 10 children, my Grandfather lived to be 90 and he used to talk about having governesses, carriages etc. The money obviously came from his wifes side as Williams father was a Baker.Wonder where the money went?? In 1873 William was 60 and retired.

Thank you for that
