Had this through via a mailing list I'm on:

http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/staterecords/

If you go to it, then click on state records, then key down and click on keyname search you will get a search box. Just type in the surname and if you are lucky and your person is there, you could get ticket of leave details, pardon details, shipping details, divorce details, maybe a photo, depending on what records there are. You can even order records if you find one
