Default Photos of London Cemeteries website

I thought this might be of interest to anyone who can't get to a particular cemetery in London and would give you an idea of what your ancestor's last resting place is like.

There's a fair size list with photos, including Brookwood and Highgate.

I thought some of them quite extraordinary. Did you see the tomb of Thomas Sayers with his dog in Highgate West and the two women in Brookwood, one an Indian lady I think, reading a book? and the other with her head bowed I wonder who she was or represents?

Yes i did , i visit Brookewood however the cemetry is locked , but i suppose thats one way of keeping headstones from being broken .

I know it sounds weird but i love reading headstones, they realy can be interesting.

No, not weird at all. I used to live in the street that ran the length of Nunhead Cemetery, we would often take the dog for a Sunday stroll and read the inscriptions on the headstones, I vaguely remember a family grave where there were about eight or so children who all died in infancy.

I have to agree with the writer of the London Cemeteries site when he says that cemeteries are some of the very few places in London where you can find peace and are cheaper than art galleries.

Does appear to be a problem with the site. I can't find any contact address, but there are quite a few links to other sites with photos that might be useful. Shame really as there were some very good photos here.

Flickr has a cemetery pool, I've only had a quick look but there are over 400 members so hopefully a good collection of pictures

    Default I'm back :-)

Thanks for the link, and apologies for the site downtime... only a couple of years!

I had a bunch of really horrible emails, ranging from someone who was going to sue me for posting a picture of her family's grave, to someone else who told me I was killing her mother because I wouldn't travel (at my own expense) from one country to another to photograph a grave for her.... so I took the whole thing offline.

But I missed it. So the site's back online now. Almost all the photos that were there before are back too.

And finally, if anyone's up for photography trips to London cemeteries, please let me know. Or I'll see you at the Kensal Green open day this Saturday.
