    Default Re Reuben Purves

    Hello Everyone.
I wondered if anyone could help I'm looking for Reuben Purves (1843) I know he was married in Coleraine in 1867 to a Janet (Jessie) Urquhart, I can find him on England census 91,01,11 but not before in England or Scotland which is where he was from. I have know idea why he went to Ireland.
    Any help would be brilliant.

You say you have no idea why Reuben went to Coleraine. I suspect his employment as a marine engineer might be the reason. Coleraine is a small seaport on the River Bann and in the 1800s had quite a bit of commercial traffic, a lot of it to and from Scotland. That may have brought him to Coleraine. Perhaps his employers sent him there. His marriage is registered in Coleraine 1867 Volume 11, page 547. You can get a photocopy of the marriage cert from GRO Roscommon for €4. His occupation and address in 1867 may shed some more light on the matter?
