Marriage for Edward Forshaw(born 1839 in Little Hoole Lancs) in Preston Lancs.

1862 to Ellen Harrison, (father James harrison) bride age 21
Groom Edward Forshaw, age 23, father John Forshaw.

This Ellen matches the wife in the 1881 census.
Someone has a tree on A******** which has these same children, Margaret,John, James, Elizabeth, Alice, Matthew 1874, Randel and Ann BUT they have the parents of Edward born 1839 as James Forshaw and Jane.
I think this tree is incorrect and that the Edward who wed Ellen Harrison is the son of John Forshaw.
So perhaps it may be necessary to buy either a copy of your Matthew's birth cert. or his marriage cert to establish correct name of parents.

Probate for Edward RICHARD Forshaw who died17th may 1905 of Hesketh Farm Howick preston Lancs. Probate , Lancaster to Randall Harrison Forshaw, farmer and Alice Forshaw and Ann Forshaw spinsters.
So If that is your Matthew born 1874 with the family on the census then this Edward Richard Forsaw is his father and his mother was Ellen Harrison.
Christening for Edward Richard Forshaw oct 28th 1838, parents John Forshaw and Jane.
