Arrival in UK and lived in Manchester

Hello,

My grandfather, Harris Sklar, after whom I am named, was born in 1864 in Latvia which at that time was part of Russia and moved with his wife to the UK in the late 1800's. In census records from Manchester he is listed as a cap maker He lived in Manchester with his family until 1892 when they moved to New York, USA. I have census reports from Manchester but have been unable to locate where the immigration and ship manifest records for his arrival in the UK may be and if they are available. Is there someone who can assist me in locating these records?

Hi Harris. I was born in Sri Lanka & my grandad Ernald Frank Harris (born in Feb 1917) served the Royal navy & was based in Sri Lanka (former Ceylon). His rank was Sapper R.E & number was 1874058. I have been living in UK for the past 15 years & am trying to trace my Grandads family tree. I am new to the forum & can you or anyone please point me at the right direction in finding his records.

Hi There, Do you have a copy of your Grandfather's birth cert? Can you also tell us what other information you have on your Grandfather such as siblings names if known..The birth entry for him below has Mothers maiden name as Harris so do you know if he was born out of wedlock?

Long shot here but with not much information to go on I wonder if this could have been your Gt Grandparents and for some reason your Gt Grandmother registered your Grandfather's birth under her maiden name?

The district Stone is in the county of Staffordshire

There are a few marriages for Harris to Harris but we need more information...If you don,t have a copy of your Grandfathers birth cert can you confirm his Mother's name?
