Thread: Bolton Horridges

I am wondering if there is anyone out there that can help me find out information regarding Jospeh Horridge born abt 1856 and Anne Jane Mcdonnell. They were married in England about 1879-1881, They had 3 children Samuel, Stephen and Edward all born in Bolton between 1882-1885. They died between 1886-1889. I cannot seem to find any record of their marriage or their deaths. The children were adopted by their Maternal grandmother Ann Mcdonnell and they immegrated to America under ther name Mcdonald. Any and all help is greatly appreciated I have been working on my family tree for years and it dead ends with them, (they are my great great grandparents, so you can see i am not getting very far with them).

There is a John J Horridge marrying a Ann J. McDonald in Bolton in 1882. Could she have possibly married in the name of McDonald and not McDonnell ?
Also could he have been John Joseph Horridge ?????

All those are correct. We were never sure of his first name. And we found out that Anne's last name had been McDonald, They did previously go by McDonnell. I am so excited to finally find out their real names. My Dad has been searching for ever. Can anyone give me any info on how to go about getting birth certificates?

Needing some more help!!! So I found John and Ann, but now i am having an issue because when I tried to look into John's family and I think that i found that his mother was single. I found the 1860 census and it shows him living with his mom and they lived with her parents. So is there anyway to find out who is father was? He did not have his father's last name. I can't afford to get the birth certificate on John is there any other way to find out information? Thank you all for your help

Even if you did get his birth cert. it may not show the father's name so you wouldn't gain anything.
A christening might/ might not help as sometimes is written "reputed father William Bloggs" but mostly there is just a blank where father's name should be. Did John have a middle name as sometimes the surname of the father is used as a middle name or even the father's name is used for the child's name or middle name.
There are bastardy bonds which name the father of the illig child to ensure the father supports him/her.
The marriage cert of John may give a father's name but it may not.... so no guarantees either way. Illig. children were registered with the mother's surname.
