    Hello hritchie

Have you looked at this site lan-opc.org.uk and genuki.co.uk

You will need to look at the original source, written at the time by a Church Official, copies of the Parish Records ( Baptism) canbe obtained, ususally form Liverpool Record Office, a bit far for you? or look at the Libary section on the LDS site where I understand you cn order the film and view etc.

The only other is to purchase the birth certificate at £9.25 from gro.gov.uk

I have tried both those sites but the only place I can find this citation is the lds site - I can't find it as a registered birth so I can't purchase through gro and I can't find it on the parish records so I can't go to LRO yet. I am completely flummoxed ! The lds details are Indexing Project (Batch) Number:C04348-7Source Film Number:1656568Reference Number:196

but I haven't be able to track down the original course at the lds sire either

OK that did not work so back to the drawing board....and a coffee

I also had a look at the local bmd site lancsbmd.org.uk but nothing....just occassionally the info is there and not on freebmd it depends where and what the transcribers are doing. Most of the free sites are ongoing and work in progress ( wip)

We now k ow that the birth should be registered in the quarter to Sept 1879

Births usually need to be registered within 42 days of the event!
Compulsory registration was 1875, so I would expect to find it...the alternative if the child is not of the marriage, whilst baptised the registration maybe under the mother's previous surname....
do you know what that is

Esther went under a number of different names (as far as I can work out). The earliest I found (on a sib or half-sib) was Walker formerly Phillips. So I will look for that name now

I found Elizabeth - you were right it was Elizabeth Margaret.Esther seems to have lived in a notorious red light district. I am starting to think she was a "lady of the night" as I have yet to find evidence of a husband on a census !
