I'm looking for any info on my G.Grandparents Dundas Simpson born 1868 and Mary Lyon born approx. 1866 - G.G.Grandparents John Simpson born 1839 and Margaret Brunton born 1841 Robert Lyon born 1838 and Catherine Reid born 1836. Sir James Young Simpson is a relative of mine and I would love to find out the connection. Thanks

By 1911 they had moved to 90 Pembroke Road Seven Kings Ilford Essex. They had 9 children, 7 of whom were still living. He was a manager in a retail chemists.

In Sir James Young Simpson's probate record there is mention of a John Simpson 'chemist and druggist Edinburgh.
I expect you have seen this site electricsotland for info on life of Sir J.Y. Simpson.
He married a Jessie Grindley in 1839 and in the probate there is mentioned one Walter Grindley Simpson of Strathavon, Baron.
Sir James Young simpson , born in 1811 was the son of a baker , David Simpson and his wife Mary Jenway who was of Huguenot descent. The family lived in Bathgate Linlithglow near Edinburgh.
Hi Julia, Sir James Young Simpson was my husband's 3xGreat Uncle. My husband is a direct descendant of Dundas Simpson (James brother). I have a copy of JYS will which you can access online detailing his family and bequests he made. Dundas went into a partnership with a chap called Houghton and they set up a chemist chain which was subsequently sold to John Boot and became the Boots the Chemist we know today.
