Hi I am looking for the Cork(e) and Goodwin (Luddesdown) families from Kent.
I am currently researching my family (Goodwin) in Luddesdown and have some information which may be of interest to you. I would be interested to know what info you have and where the Cork(e) connection appears.
Hello Ron, thank you for getting in touch. It takes me ages to find my way round this site for some reason!
Right. I am connected to the Goodwins who originated in Ash/Meopham but later moved to Luddesdown. My gt. grandfather was Frederick (married to Charlotte Burkett) and one of their many sons, William Joseph, was my grandfather. He was born in 1876. I have quite a lot of info on this branch of the Goodwin tree.
William Joseph married Beatrice Olive Cork(e) in 1904. She was the daughter of Daniel Cork(e) - that 'e' gets really annoying at times!! Some of them have it and some of them don't! Beatrice was born in Frindsbury in 1880.
Am now curious as to your connection? Regards. LP.
My great-grandfather Edward John Goodwin (born Meopham 1854) was married at Luddesdown church to Caroline Accleton (born Cobham 1859) and lived at Brookers Farm in Luddesdown. I have discovered the existance of 2 sons (George & James) and 2 daughters (Maud & Victoria). George was my grandfather, who was born in Luddesdown but spent most of his life in the Royal Navy then the Merchant Navy (died during WW2).
Edward's father was Thomas Goodwin (born Meopham 1819/20) married to Martha Ann Carlow (born Meopham ~1826). I am not sure of the extent of their children.
Having been to Luddesdown, there are few houses so the chances of there being several Goodwin families may be remote. Do you know when your ancestors moved to Luddesdown?
Ron
Hi
I just happened across this thread. My 3g grandmother was Eliza Goodwin: daughter of Thomas Goodwin and Elizabeth Lansdell, baptised Ash by Wrotham 15 Jan 1797. She had a sister called Mahala.
Although I have traced Elizabeth Lonsdell's family for many generations, I have never managed to trace any records for Thomas.
I imagine he was related to the Goodwins of Meopham, but can find no proof. It would appear that Thomas of Meopham was married to Mary during the time that Eliza and Mahala were born, so I am at a loss to find my Thomas. Any help appreciated.
Regards
Phil How
Hi Phil. The problem here is that the Goodwins of Meopham seemed to be very prolific. I don't have Eliza or Mahala in my tree but I have ten by the name of Thomas. One was married to a Mary Crowhurst. If you are a member of Genes Reunited I will share my tree with you so that you can wander at will!!
The name Mahala does ring a bell but I can't remember where I have seen it. Have you been through Medway City Ark? Let me know what you think. Regards. LP.![]()
Thank you for the Medway link. Although it has not given me the info I need, it is a most interesting resource.
I have a tree on ancestry and would be most grateful if I could look at yours.
My e-mail is phil@howlight.co.uk
Hi Phil, unfortunately, I am not on ancestry but I do have a tree on GR if that is any use? LP.
Yes I am on there too, though I must confess I haven't used GR for months now, and cannot remember how I would set about viewing your tree.
Hi. You would have to click on View tree but we need to find each other first. I'm on there most days so I will email you the details. LP
