    Default greetings from Oz

Hi folks, Am also very new to this and haven't a clue what it's all about. Am hoping someone can help me trace my g grandfather's parents. the only info I have is his date of marriage from my grandfathers birth cert. Would love to find his parents names. Have looked up his marriage but cannt find any record of it.

On my grandfathers birth cert is says they were married in London on 8th Jan 1878. There is a twist though, I also have a copy of a marriage cert for him from Sydney dated 30th July 1870 to the same person. What do I do next??? Please can someone out there help set the record straight. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers gayegel.

    Hi Gayegel

Welcome to AA! Maybe the 1878 certificate you have is the Birth cert of your Grandfather!?! I believe that only Scottish birth certificates gives all the extra info on parents...but certainly English ones don't.

If you post a query into the Genealogy Thread then someone else will probs take a look.

    Good Luck with your research

Default Re: greetings from Oz - lookup please

Thanks for the welcome fellow researchers. The details I have are on my grandfathers birth cert from Aust. maybe they have more details than the english ones. anyway here goes, hope someone can help.

Grandfather, George Frederick Whiteland, born Geelong, Victoria, Australia 21stMarch 1892.

Parents Henry Whiteland, carpenter, 46yrs born London, England

Mother Lucy Taylor 36yrs born Derby, England.

Married 8th Jan 1878 London, England and had another son Henry 6yrs at the time of George's birth.

I have not been able to find any record of their marriage in London in 1878.

The problem I have is that I have also got an extract of marriage for Henry & Lucy in Sydney, Aust dated 30th July 1870.

Why would you emigrate to Aust, get married in 1870, travel back to London and get married again in 1878???? and then come back to Aust. Especially in those day's, the trip would have taken months.

Is there anyone out there who could lookup the marriage in London for me please?

I would be extremely grateful for any help here.

    Cheers Gayegel.
