    Default Hi Everyone

My name's Linda, I've just been thinking about researching my family tree - truth be told I don't really have a clue where to start so any advice would be welcome.

I originate from Snodland in Kent (well someone has to) but now live in France. My 89 year old father is visiting me at the moment and we got talking family stuff and it made me realise that I know very little about grandparents on either side let alone further back and I'd like to find out more

    .

    Regards everyone

    Linda

    Hello Linda,

A warm welcome to AA. Glad to have you with us.

There are plenty of member's willing to help with finding those elusive ancestor's, post your names of interest on the relevant forums and I'm sure someone will be able to help. Enjoy what the site has to offer and Good Luck with your research. If you need a break, maybe we will see you in 'Chat Room' where you will get to know some of our friendly member's.

P.S Get as much information as you can regarding relative's from your father, i.e names, dates and places. These should help you on your way.

    Hi Linda,

Welcome to Ancestry Aid. I hope you enjoy the site. To start:- get as much information from any relatives you have. It might pay you to let them know what you want to do and then arrange a visit. Take with you a notebook and pen and write down as many names, dates, places etc that they can remember. The beginning is one of the hardest bits as living people are not yet on the censuses that we have access to. Your older relatives may not be around too long so get as much from them as you can.

Once you have enough information to make a start, work from yourself backwards. You will find many people on the site willing to help once you have a few names and dates to start with. Good luck with your research. One word of warning - It is very additive.
