Thread: Introduction

Hi, I have been researching my family history for some eight years - prompted at the time by an interest of my parents. Sadly I was unable to satisfy my fathers desire to link the family name (Douglas) back to Scotland. I became bogged down in Southwark/Bermondsey/Lambeth districts in London - without success.

Recently I had a break-through and located the William Douglas in the 1861 census giving his place of birth (1824) in Aldbury, Hertfordshire.

I am particularly interested in the social history relating to his/his families move to London and why in 1861 he is given as a bookbinder and 1871 as a slaughterman.
