Hi Everyone! This is the first time I have come to this website. I was researching my Welsh ancestors. My grandfather, EVAN ELLIS EVANS (born in 1896) emigrated through Ellis Island and went on to Chicago in 1907 from ANGLESEY, WALES. His mother's maiden name was ELLIS and I believe he had four brothers and two sisters; my grandfather was the only one in the family who emigrated. He had originally planned to go to Australia but for some unknown reason to me, he ended up in Chicago, liked it and stayed! In those days, people from the same country would "congregate" together at their destination cities in the U.S. because they all had a lot in common. My grandfather met a woman at a Welsh picnic in Chicago. She was born in Chicago in 1890 and was of Welsh descent (her father emigrated to Chicago in 1871 from northern Wales and arrived the day after the Chicago fire). Her maiden name was WILLIAMS. Her mother's family was also of Welsh descent and had been in this country for several hundred years (PROTHEROE). My grandparents married in 1912 in Chicago and my father was born the following year in 1913. I was wondering if any of my "Welsh cousins" read this site. Thanks!
