    Default 1936 Palestine Campaign Medal

My father Thomas Frederick HERBERT, C.P.O. Writer served in the Royal Navy (1918 - 1945). Among his medals is the 1936 Palestine Campaign Medal. At about that time he was serving in HMS Malaya and I have photos of him living ashore in tents wearing a Khaki uniform with puttees.

Can anyone enlighten me regarding this particular campaign?

    TIA Michael

Hello Michael and welcome to AA.

Your best bet with this I think is to put it on the Military forum. There are sections for Army/Navy/Air Force. Someone will pick it up I;m sure.

    Good luck
How beautiful it is to do nothing and rest afterwards...........

Hi -- I'm not able to tell you what the Palestine Campaign Medal 1936 was, but there was an outbreak of trouble between Arabs and Jewish settlers around that time. My father was in the Palestine police for about 15 months throughout 1936 and I have a torn cutting from an unknown magazine with a photo of him asleep! leaning on his rifle. The caption reads: <... one of Palestine's steel-helmeted armed police enjoys a nap ... a picture taken during a lull in the fighting which has been going on since the middle of April when an Arab strike was followed by rioting. ... On May 18th the High Commissioner Sir Arthur Walchope ... Jewish immigrants for the half year ending September 30 ... official intention not to yield...>

Most of the caption is torn off and missing, but it gives a clue to the trouble at the time.

I have photos of my father as well, dressed in a Solar Topi and khaki shorts down to his knees, and one or two others of soldiers with him who look as if they were from a Scottish regiment as they are dressed in Kilts.

Sorry not to have anything more definite about the medal, I too would like to know more about it.

    Good luck with the search

    Best wishes

    Deborah
