Hello Ancestry Aid people



I've just joined this forum, and it seems to be the polite thing to do to introduce yourself, so here goes.



I've been seriously researching my family history for about three years now. I use the term "family history" rather than "genealogy" on purpose - it's the undesrtanding of the life and times of my ancestors and their families which is a bigger quest than the pure line of descent.



My great grandparents brought up their families in Croydon, Surrey (as it then was), but few of their antecedents were from Croydon.



My family names are:



Essex - Blakeley, Carter, Curden, Danns, Jeffrey, Mason, Middleditch, Parker, Pond, Poole, Rose, Sorrill, Stephens, Surry, Theobold

Kent - Luetchford

Nottinghamshire - Baker, Dunks, Woodward, Price, Priestley

Suffolk - Rose

Surrey - Baker, Bedel, Bransden, Carter, Coleman, Gibbs, Luetchford, Quinton

Sussex - Gibbs, Langridge

Wiltshire - Brice, Rumble



The names on which I've made the most progress are in bold.



I had a good leg up in my research from work done by other relatives, prior to the development of the internet as a great research aid. It has however meant that I've identified some possible holes in that prior research.

Are their any tips anywhere about how to get the best out of this forum?

Welcome to AA, I hope you enjoy the site. I see from your web site that you are not new to genealogy. One tip I can give you is to enter your surnames of interest in the Surnames forum which is situated at the top of the forum. Although in it's infancy, it is similar to the hot matches in that you will be able to see who else is researching the same names in a given area.

May I add my welcome to AA as well.



As Star suggests, the Surnames of Interest Board can be very usefull. We do have a very good Family Tree Maker programme which is fully seachable so again a good place to find any "matches". You can upload a Gedcom file to make life easier.



We also have our Vital Records which again is fully searchable.
