    Default Justin Family from Galway and Kildare

    Hello all

    I've been searching for the roots of my family tree, on and off, for many years. When I stumbled across this forum it seemed to rekindl the flame to find family connections .

    Here's what I know so far about my mother's side of the tree:

    Patrick Michael Murphy, my maternal Great Grandfather from County Clare, reportedly married a Crowley lass (can't seem to find the name) and had 10 children. The eldest of those, Catherine Mary Murphy born 1898, was my Maternal Grandmother, emmigrated to Canada and married William Victor Justin.

    William Victor ("WV") was the eldest son, born in 1898 in County Kildare, to Henry and Emma Justin, but reportedly spend much of his early life living with his Grandfather. When his father died, his mother, Emma, remarried to Joseph Rynehart. In any event, WV had three siblings: Hannah, Syd and Francis. Hannah, Syd and WV emmigrated to Canada, initially settling down in Barrie, ON. Francis emmigrated to England, became a church minister and reportedly did a mission to Africa. WV moved around a bit, but settled in Ponoka, AB., married Catherine Mary Murphy and had 5 kids: Evaline Emma, June Rose, Francis, Cathy and Edward. June Rose was my mother.

    I know almost nothing about my Greatgrandparents and absolutely nothing about their family history. Anything anyone else can add will be greatly appreciated.

    Marriage between Henry Edward Justin and Emma Sexton registered Athy, Jan – Mar 1892 Vol 3, page 323.

    What looks like WV’s birth was registered in Edenderry, Oct – Dec 1897 Volume 3, page 335. (Kings/Offaly rather than Kildare).

    This looks like WV in the 1901 census:

    National Archives: Census of Ireland 1911

    and in 1911:

    National Archives: Census of Ireland 1911

    This looks to be his 3 step-siblings, with his mother and new husband in 1911:

    That is absolutely phenomenal, Elwyn. Thank you very much.

    You have just confirmed 8 items of information:
    -My GGGF's name (William Sexton)
    -My GGM's maiden name (Sexton);
    -My GGM's alias (if you will humour me);
    -WV's lived with his GF, William Sexton;
    -WV later lived with his two aunts (Sarah and Hannah);
    -Place of birth for WV;
    -Confirmed date of Birth, which we understood to be Dec 5, 1897;
    -Francis and Syd were twins, which seems to run in our family.

    Any thoughts on how I go about getting copies of:
    -the Marriage Cert for Henry Edward Edward and Emma
    -Birth Certificate for WV?

    Thank you again for some wonderful results.

    The originals of Irish BDM certs are not viewable on line. There are some pay to view sites where you get transcripts but they don’t all have all the details eg addresses and witnesses, so if you want to see the full details on the certificate you have to order a copy. I use GRO Roscommon because they offer a photocopy option, which is cheaper than a full formal certificate, and it eliminates the possibility of transcription errors. Provided you give them accurate information, and they don’t have to do any searching, a photocopy only costs €4.

    Go to the GRO Roscommon website: www.groireland.ie/ Download the application forms you need, and fill them in with the information you have, including the location, year, quarter (if there is one shown), Volume & page number. Don’t worry if you have to leave some boxes blank, eg PPS number. Be sure to tick the box marked photocopy. You then either fax or post the forms off to them (there is no e-mail option if you are just ordering a photocopy). It generally takes about 10 days from when they receive the order.

    For copies of registrations in Ireland excluding Northern ireland go to Visit us: Order records in advance of your visit for information. The certificates they provide are very different from what you obtain from the English Government Records Office. In Ireland you get a photocopy of the entry in the register, on a slip of paper - rather like an GCE exam results slip. Certified copies of certificates are more expensive and are more like the certificates you recieve in England. (You would require these if you wanted to apply for an Irish passport.)

    Like requests for certifcates in England you need to know the year, place and Vol and page number. The service provided is quick and efficent.
