Thread: Greetings from the US!

The user name is actually the lead character of an old American TV western. I started digging around on A------y and some other sites about 4 months ago, and eventually stumbled upon this site. Since there are family members searching the family tree on my father's side, I thought I'd concentrate on my mother's side. Now I'm doing both sides.I'm finding my ancestors were mostly German (this I knew) and British (more than I thought, at first). We have traced one branch (father's side), Lowell/Lowle back to Yardley, England to the 1200's. Another branch of the family (mother's side), Wilkinson to places like Antrobus, Cheshire, England and Stockport, Cheshire, England. In this branch, an Irish woman married into the family. In still another branch (mother's side), Mosher, I was thought was strictly German, but found out my branch moved to the UK, for several generations, and then went to Newport, Rhode Island, before eventually coming to my area in New York State. Another branch (father's side), Rowland, I can't trace very far back (2 generations). They are in the US, but I think if I can trace them further back, I have a feeling it might also lead to the UK. In the past, I've told people that my ancestors were German/Dutch. That's what I was told, but there are simply no Dutch to be found. Now I say that my ancestors were German/British.

A very warm Ancestry Aid welcome to you Paladin..You seem to be making good progress with your researching so well done..Those family stories I think we all have them but how much truth there is in them is another matter..I am suppose to have links so the family story goes to French Nobles but have never found anything to suggest there is/was.
