Thankyou for letting us know what to do on this site, especially for a confirmed ludite such as myself.
I am hoping that somebody might be able to help me find a Miss M. H. (Hannah) Griffiths who completed her Training as a Nurse at the Wigan Infirmary at the end of the nineteenth century probably 1898-99. She then went to Africa and was an army nurse in the Boer War, rising to be the Matron at Kokstadt Hospital. She arrived here in New Zealand in late 1908 early 1909 and lived in Dunedin for the first three years of her time here. She moved to Auckland in July 1912, but unfortunately she was not well treated here. She was still in Auckland at the end of 1913, then she disappears.
She wound up in Alexandria Egypt at no. 19 Hospital, and then sadly she died when a mule-ambulance upon which she was riding was hit by a train in late 1915-early1916..
I would love to find out about her parentage, and any descendents that she may have. I can't find a Death certificate for her here in New Zealand, so I am thinking that she must have gone back to England and joined the Army Nurses there.
Any help in finding out about her would be deeply appreciated.
Kindest Regards from Kiwi Veronica1![]()
