Hi,
I`ve been tracing my family for about 6 years now, and have had a lot of good luck in finding my aunt and her family in Australia.
However there are a few elusive ancestors that I would love to find information on. I`m hoping that AA members will be able to help me.

I`ve been trying to find my uncle, John Charles Johnston b 15.01.1914, but with no luck of his whereabouts after 1960. He was in Cyprus in the RAOC and married for the 3rd time whilst there. His new wife Jacqueline Spradbury was in the nursing corps. I`ve looked for records here but cannot find either of them. I`m now sure if they came back to UK after he retired from the army ,so if anyone has a suggestions for where I should start looking I`d be grateful for any help

Do you have any idea where he may have settled on his return to this country? or where he was born? I assume he he and his wife have died. We are not allowed to post any info about living people as it is not acceptable policy - so we ask if you send a private message if you are not sure. I am assuming your uncle has died? do you have any of his marriage details? or perhaps their children that you could glean any info from. Some WW2 records are very slowly coming on line - but they are very few and far between. You can get info from the M.O.D by writing to them but I think they will only release info to close kin. Still it is worth a try. Have you looked in old trade directories, old phone books etc;

Hi pejay,
I only found the family in 2009 and my new found cousins have scant knowledge of his whereabouts. The last time he was seen was around 1955 in London. He had spoken of going to Africa when he retired from Army life, this info came from a cousin who saw him when she was very young so it may or may not be right. No one has heard from him since. I found his son aged 78 living in Brighton ,but he has no idea where his father went after his parents divorced in the mid 1940s. My aunt in Australia is the last of the siblings alive and she has not seen her brother since after the war. Not much to go on I`m afraid, only that he was born in London and married at the age of 17. I have his birth and marriage certs, but cannot find a death anywhere in the BMDs, so it`s probable he emigrated and died abroad.
