Hello from Canada!
I am researching a Lamond family who originated in Argyl, Scotland but ended up in India. Duncan James Lamond was born in the 1840s. He served in the Crimea and ended up in India. He mustered out to the Madras Asylum where he met and married his wife, Harriet Jane MacDonald, who I believe was his nurse. I've been told that soldiers who sustained serious injuries were sent to this facility to recover. Duncan probably suffered from shell shock. This couple had one known son, also Duncan James, and two daughters, Amelia and unknown.
Duncan James Lamond Jr. was born at Tamil Nadu. He married Mary Dorothy Ross. She was born about 1899 at Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu. Her parents were David Ross and Selena Johnson. I don't know anything about David Ross. Selena was born at Vepery in W.India to Samuel Johnson and Elizabeth Robinson. Samuel Johnson was the son of Jones Johnson. Elizabeth's parents were from England but I don't have any details concerning them. Family lore says these folks were connected with the railway. An uncle believes David Ross was a bookkeeper or accountant with the railway.
