Thread: Researching Bernard McGowan

Hi everyone, new to this site but not genealogy. Bernard is my brickwall, supposedly born Glasgow c 1811, possibly 'lawful son of John Millowen? weaver & his lawful wife Eleonore Ferroll/Farrell/Carroll. Sponsors James Sherry? & susanna Tierney/Tierrey?' unable to find his DOB or any bmd/census records naming parents. Documented in Glasgow Herald Sept. 28 1829 Barnard McGown for breaking into a shop/robbery x 2 that also being habit and repute. Short trial found guilty sentenced 14 yrs to colony transported Marquis of Huntley age 18yrs; religion RC; single; family- none; occ. house painter. Arr. Oz 1830.

Conflicting info birth years - convicted/sentenced 1829 age 18 dob ?1811

info from NSW BMD index he died 1876 age 60yrs dob expected 1816.

Any help very much appreciated - most name var. used in research on numerous websites to no avail. Other name interests:



Robert & Sinah Evans (Wales); John & Amelia Hall nee Andrews (Durham)

James & Rachel McCurdy nee Richards (unk Eng & Birmingham);
