Thread: New to your site, thanks for the welcome.

Hi everyone, my name is Dave and I am here trying to find information on my Great Grandfather. His name was John Sharp, born about 1842 or 1843. I know he was in the US Civil War on the Union side. He enlisted in August of 1863 at the age of 21. I believe he was from Frittenden, Kent, England. I am rather new to ancestry searching and have become overwhelmed with all the sites on the internet offering some much information. I was looking for a site where I could get a feel for what to do without spending a fortune only to find out they didn’t have any information pertinent to me.
